I suspect you are pretty much on your own, unless you have a rather large indoor facility. How much room do you have?

The site where I fly is limited to 15 ft lines, and that isn't much for stunts!  Training, scale, speed and racing are all doable.

Last year we had access to the Tustin, CA blimp hangar and flew a .15 size model on 52' lines.  That was fun.

Search on "Igor Burger" and "Indoor".  He's got a pretty fancy setup so he can practice indoors in the winter in northern climes.

Paul, I hope you will come to Pardubice, you will see it in real, I expect 20 people will come and fly contest :-))) ... you can even borrow model and enter competition :- ))) ... or even better - come a day earlier, you need only one evening to build model :- ))

model is 200g heavy, span is 80 or 90 cm with 60W motor with KV=1400, prop 10x4.7, ESC 11W and battery is 2s 800mAh

fully stuntable at 5s per lap on 5m (15 ft ) lines.

Larry, you can fly whole stunt program on 15ft lines, the only limitation is ceinling, you must have gym without stupid lamp or something hanging from top, if all is OK, then usual school gym for basketball is OK, however we also flew in small gym with shorter lines (12ft or so) and it was also doable without problems.

Tim posted my old video 3 or 4 years old, this newer shows full stunt program:

Contest will be in Czech town Pardubice (near Hradec Kralove) organized by Pavel Macek 2nd and 3rd March. I will post propositions whenever I get them from Pavel. I expect people from 4 or 5 countries.

Hi Paul,
I've recently developed a KR governor timer for low rpm and it is being tested by Igor's friend Attila Csontos for thse models. Let me know if you're interested. Wish I could join you!

Does that thing have side-force generators on it?  I couldn't tell if it did, but it certainly seems to be going too slow to be staying up by centrifugal force.

That whole "thing" is one big side force generator :- ))))))))))))))

yes, definitely, the centrifugal force is not able to make line tension :- )))))))

if you count area of fuselage, landing gears and plus some other parts from side, you will se that it is larger than wing :- ))) ... however it is usual also for R/C indoors ... look to pics, first shows fuselage and wing and on second you can see 2 landing gears also with lot of area

and beside that, it flies yawed ~20 degrees out, so also prop makes lot of side thrust

I watched the early videos of the indoor flying stunt.   I kept waiting for the plane to fall from the top of the circle it was flying so slow.

Anyone heave plans for these planes?  Or where to buy kits?  Engine/esc/timer set ups?  To help cut down on the learning curve.  That was awsome!

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.  How does he paint them, or does he put monokote trim on it?

Sorry I missed somehow request for plan, yes that PDF over is actual. However I have also corel drawing with mail dimmensions printable 1:1, but no so nice done as that PDF. I have it without those teeth etc.

Model is powered by 60W motor, we use motor dode especially for this, so It can handle 10" prop, but it can be powered also cheap "chinese" production but it will come little heavier. TO rpm is 4200-4500 and battery 2s 800mAh

color printing in kit is done on UV printer, but it was too expensive so we do not have it actually, but home made colors are easy to do by color pencils, permanent markers, or colors for textile.

So you have kitted these?  If so, what is the price with shipping to the U.S.?

We had kits, I sold aproximately 40 sets, but as I wrote we had troubles with printing - price, quality etc. So now I look for new maker, hopefully I will find someone. If not, I hope we will have at least white so everyone can make his own colors or at least short kits without foam and carbon (wheels bellcrank etc) plus power train packs in 2 levels - beginner and expert.

BTW I have already propositions for contest in Pardubice:

no, no flaps  ;D ... many good reasons not to have flaps and no good reason to have them  ;D

Igor
What size do I have the drawing printed to.  And is the wing two pieces?  If it is a two piece wing, so I put a carbon spar in?
Title: Re: 1/2 a flying indoor
Post by: Igor Burger on January 04, 2013, 02:13:52 PM
the wing span is 900 mm as stated on the plan, but I think Luis did that plan 1:1 so you can print it 100% and you should get proper size

and yes wings are 2 halves, with one carbon spar 3mm x 0,5mm

(edit: span repaired, sorry for confusion)

Igor,
Have you tried the APC 10 x 4.7 P pusher prop on the Gee Bee?  I would think it would work well..no?

How does the Hobby King 2205C-1400KV motor work?

Thanks.

Christ, if you want electric motor and not smoking internal combustion engine, then I would say this motor is too small  VD~

Top motor for this we use is special made 32g heavy motor with kv=1400 like this motor from your link, but its internal resistence is 150mOhm. I think this will be somewhere close to 300. From chinese production, we need aproximately 40g motor like http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5354

however I am judging without seeing :- )))

and regarding pusher, you should know I am not pusher believer, I spent unsuccessfully some time on outdoor models with pusher just to be sure that how it works and told myslef that theory is proper, I can make better trim with tractor then pusher. But may be one day ... I have pusher GWS 10x4.7 in my box, so may be once I will try it again :- )))

We use this motor with good results in many planes, some of them quite heavy and it only gets barely warm. It is our default motor  :)

It will be very difficult. These are not the best times here and my aerospace engineering degree is not easy at all  n~
