"Naughty Girl" takes shape
« on: July 10, 2011, 01:06:42 PM »
My latest project is John Ashford's Naughty Girl.  Eric Rule at RSM asked me to do the test build of this new kit.  As I was starting the project I asked Eric if I could do it as an electric build.  He agreed but did ask me to dry fit all the IC parts to make sure his cut file was correct.  With that I set out to build this plane as an electric.  It's been a fun build for me, Eric and John Miller did a good job in drawing up the CAD plans, the issues I have found are minor and were quickly corrected.

Below is are some pictures I have taken to document the build.  As I find issues I send Eric a write up and a complete set of pictures of the issue, that way a fix can be generated quickly.  On a personal note, I find this plane very pleasing to the eye and a nice build.  You will notice in my first picture a jig I built, the idea came from a drawing on the plans.  If I had just taken a look at the sheet wood I would have seen that all the parts to make the jig were already laser cut.  Oh well, live and learn.

ANDREW!

You keep this up and folks are gonna start thinking you LIKE electric models!  All seriousness aside, I presume you will be installing the RSM power system?  Should be a great match.

Hi Dennis
Sort of to answer your question.  Right now the plan is to use a Hacker A30-10XL with a KR governor timer and a CC Thunderbird 54 amp ESC.  I also have a Turnigy 3548-900 motor, it is rated at 770 watts where the Hacker is rated at 640 watts but I think the Hacker is a higher quality motor I hope that means higher efficiency.   Anyway the plane is coming along quite nicely.  I started covering the tail feathers and the flaps, it should be ready to test fly in a couple of weeks.  Nice thing about electric, we rattle can painters now have a much larger selection to choice from.  No worry about fuel proofing, I like that.
Take care Dennis

Andy it is looking great.  I see when I get around to electric I am in for a big learning curve.   Do not know what all those numbers and letters are for.  Like back when I thought .049 was the only engine size. H^^

Hi Doc
Don't worry about all the techie talk, the great thing is there are many flyers now that sort of understand what is going on.  I depended on these people when I got started and you to can depend on these people to help you out when you are ready to take on electric.  Oh and you can alway depend me to help, at the very least I can point you to the right person.

And fly VERY well she does!  Both Andy and Stan Tyler flew it.

A few minor trim issues to take care of, but it is about 95% of the way there!  I was very impressed!  H^^
