Title: "High Voltage" LiPo's?

Does anyone have any experience with these newer "High Voltage" LiPo's?

They seem like hype to me, and I've always thought that there is no free lunch, so I would expect less duty cycles...although it states otherwise about that. Obviously, ECL isn't in need of 65C discharges, but of the HK packs, this seems to be competitive in weight to say, the G3 Hyperions.

LiPo doesn't mean one battery chemistry -- it's a whole family of chemistries and methods that's constantly being pushed forward.  So I'm not surprised that the volts/cell should be going up.  You'd have to try it and see if it lives up to the hype, though.

I unfortunately am not in possession of a test bed yet....
Just wondering if anyone has tried them yet. Maybe I'll be the first, I doubt it, maybe first to report.

Make sure your charger is capable -- I know mine isn't.

I think my TP charger is capable, not sure about the other two.
I'll check definitely before I buy any of these.

Hobbyking now shows two chargers capable of handling these - the 'Neutron' 200Watt @ $70, and an upgraded 'Accucel-6' 80Watt @ $30.  They are under "Chargers -- (LiHV).

To get it to the 15.2V for the 4S pack you need a charger designed to charge to this level. They indicate that if you don't have the higher output charger it will only charge to the normal 14.8V level (this is the normal level not the peak off the charger voltage).

Tim mentioned that a post or two before yours.
I think my Thunder Power charger does this....
I think I have it in my car, actually, so I can check tonight when I escape from the prison camp.
The other question is, are the batteries comparable to the other good ones you guys all use in terms of Voltage vs Amp draw, etc.

If so, I figure that they may offer a bit of added voltage to tune with. Maybe its not enough to notice though, and that is what I am beginning to think.

I'm going to check my charger. If it is capable, maybe I will buy one or two of the HV LiPo's and compare them to something with known performance like a Hyperion 2500.

New Hyperion 2800hv batteries replace the lowest c rating 2500. They have a higher c rating, same 2500mah capacity at normal voltage, and are hv capable.
They come with XT60 and no more "Hyperion style" balance tap.
43 dollars at www.rcdude.com, and they only weigh 5g more than the tp prolite 2700 on my scale.
It's a no brainer if the performance is up to par.
