Hi Tim :
The majority of my ships use the older out of production CC Phoenix 45( as recommended to me by Bob Hunt). They have none , but as you say the CC Ice Lite 50 does employ one. The CC 45, a different design, is actually more robust with 60 amp spike capabilities. I also have one Ice Lite 50 and left the magnet on . It has served me well , first with my RD-1e and now in a Nobler- all total, at least 200 flights.
When I first inspected the piece on the Ice lite 50, it rang a bell. Horizon Hobbies used to sell a magnetic unit that was slightly larger and could open/close like a clam shell . The design sleeved over extraordinarily long servo leads for Giant Scale R/C ships to reduce interference. I have them on my 35% Carden Cap.
May I suggest you contact Castle and speak with Bernie Wolfard who is a top tier tech over there.
Perhaps, Dean may be able to chime in, too.
Bottom line- For me -it's very light addition to the Ice Lite 50 and doesn't interfere with anything, but the decision is yours.
