tank height on 4 strokes?
« on: October 24, 2014, 05:06:57 PM »
Getting ready to try my first 4s.  Same rules apply to tank heights as does to 2 strokes?

Hi Bruce,

I have found if you use a plastic clunk tank plumbed normally with muffler pressure it isn't quite as critical as a hard tank on a two stroke. It still makes a difference but not as much. I position the tank centered on the intake but every one of my saitos are side mounted. Not sure about an inverted mounted engine.

Thank you Bob!  Trying out my first 4 stroke--a saito 40 side mounted on  a crash repair arf Vector.  Pulled out the broken motor sticks(malaysian maple,LOL) and Aero Tiger 36 and will be using a ply firewall, sig RC engine mount, in what should be a fairly neat package once complete.  I'll send more pics and flight report when done.

Bob is correct by my experiences. the tank looks high, but that's because the center line matches the intake. here's an OS 52fs on my 800 square inch ringmaster, and then the ringmaster tri-plane. the tank is lined up with the intake.

Thanks Dane, awesome looking ships you got there!  That has got to be crazy line tension on the 800sq RM.  Right arm longer than your left?  Knuckles dragging? ;)

RM Tripe?  Nuts

The answer is no. Tank height is much less critical because, these motors are almost always run with plastic tanks in the "normal operating environment". The 72,(correction my 72) has very strong fuel draw so is really doesn't matter.
