Title: Saito 50
Post by: Paul Allen on March 30, 2014, 01:57:06 AM
Hi
I have just stripped my saito 50 to replace crank bearings.
the front was a sealed bearing and the rear was shielded.
the replacement from BOCA are both shielded ( S/S bearings).
The bearing with the problem was the front one, is it OK to fit
the shielded bearing in place of the sealed one?
The other thing I found was the wrist pin was frozen in the piston
and rod was tight as well.
thanks

further to the first post I made a jig to support the piston, to aid in the wrist pin removal.

Jig looks cool.

Can't really help on the bearings, only bearings I've ever replaces were in a well used 2nd hand 72 and I used Saito bearings. They all depend on blowback to lube the cam gear and I would be a little concerned the non sealed bearing would let too much by the bearing and not enough up to the valve train. In reality it may not make any difference, I really don't know.
