So, finally got it done. Not a beauty queen, just a crash repair with a major engine swap!! Went from a aero tiger .36, to a Bob Reeves Saito set up with the venturi work done by Jim Lee at Lee Machine Shop(quick turnaround I might add.) Have not had much time to fly due to work and weather but so far very, very promising. Now flies like it has a Aero Tiger .51 installed--if such a thing existed--pulls through wind like crazy, just had me giggling. Anyway, very happy so far, will report more as time goes on.
I know everybody likes pictures....... H^^
Kind of built the thing in the air due to the nature of the repair.

It is pretty amazing just how much "Stunt" power that little Saito will deliver when operated the way it likes to be ran.

Wow GREAT job in the conversion! That side mount came out looking squeaky clean.
Great idea on the power too. Anyone who has seen Bob Reeve's Saito's perform know that he is on top of that game.

Thank you! On the center section repair on wing, used polyspan to strengthen(realise this was an arf), finished the repair areas with Rustoleum white topped with brushed on KBS clear. Total weight ready to fly 49.5 oz.

I like it, a little different look with the side mount too. Looks to me like this one might be worth stripping the monokote and doing a full refinish. y1

Thank you, but I don't think I'll be stripping this one. Arfs have a place in our hobby, I just don't have a lot of respect for them. I just use them as learning tools and test beds for engines or ideas, etc. Arfs are great when you don't have time to build, I just prefer to build from kits or from scratch. To do so is simply more fulfilling and gratifying for me.
I do enjoy the sidemount for ease of starting as I do not enjoy passing a "chain saw" running at full tilt from your helper to the ground. Fact is, I might do all my mounts this way in the future, 2 stroke or 4 stroke.. :) :)

I just asked about the Aero Tiger 36 in the engine set up forums ad I am building the Kit Vector 40
soon. This looks very interesting. Can that Saito 40 be used out of the box? Or are the modifications you
did pretty much mandatory for that combo. I am asking because up here sending an engine out for
that sort of work would take months.

Send it out to Jim Lee for a Bob Reeves carb-go fly.

The only thing the engine itself needs is proper break-in, follow the directions in the book that comes with the engine.
After break-in remove the carb and if you have access to a lathe modify it yourself or you can send it to Jim Lee. Jim will typically turn it around within days not weeks.
This link shows the carb mod for a 56/62/72 but the 40 is almost identical. Use a 10-32 nylon screw instead of 1/4-20 and follow the setup instructions at the end.

Not months, Jim was able to get it back quickly and that included some vacation time on his part. Maybe three weeks total from ship out to getting the part back. :) :)

Oh well..........
Lost the Vector to a broken up line. Engine came through with little damage. Planning on taking my Brodak kit Cardinal profile and building a full fuse for it. I just don't care for Profiles too much!! n1 n1
As I don't have an original Cardinal plan, I will just eyeball the profiles of what images and plans I can find on the net, keeping the same numbers as the profile plans. Any body have a full fuse plan they can loan?

OUCH! Not that it helps but we have all had models that ended up like you Vector for one reason or another. Good luck with the Cardinal, good flying airplanes. Shouldn't have too much trouble building up a fuselage, like you said just use the profile numbers and go for it.

I had a Mustang given to me with a Saito .40 go in this past Summer due to a line clip freak accident. Crushing blow. I know the feeling.

That seems to be an awful lot of power (and weight) for such a small model. People used 56 4-strokes on full-size airplanes very successfully, and this one is much smaller.

I've had almost every four-stroke single that OS made but I'm not familiar with the "alpha" designation or 56 size.

Hi
You would want to use a 30 to 40 size on the Vector 40, if you want to use only a 3 stroke , as it is near a Nobler size stuntship
maybe look at getting a lighter 4 stroke that does not weigh 16 ounces
something like a Saito 40
