Title: Gummed up.
Post by: Dan Labine on January 31, 2012, 06:47:16 AM
I just purchased a OS 26 4 stroke which was run a few times. When I tried to turn it over it resisted my efforts. I do not want to force it over in case I break something. Any suggestions on freeing it up??

The engine looks brand new..

Use a hot air gun and GENTLY heat it up, it should move after that, don't burn your fingers!  If your wife is out then comandeer the oven and let it warm up that way, but do NOT use a high heat.

Regards,

Andrew.

What Andrew said.. I would pull the valve cover just to make sure it hasn't rusted. I bought a Saito 30 off eBay several years ago that looked great on the outside but when I pulled the valve covers it was a rusted mess. Thankfully the seller took it back, am sure it was the result of being ran on cheap RC fuel and no after run oil.

Thanks Guys.

The heat did the trick. Valves were clean. Turns over nicely now.
