Enya 60-4C fot a control line airplane?
« on: March 27, 2017, 10:30:35 AM »
I have a really nice Enya 60 4 stroke that i think would be great on a control line but this thing has some weight to it. What size plane could i run this engine in if i could use it? Has anyone used a 60 size 4 stroke in a control line plane?

I just read that an Enya 60-4c weighs 20.988 oz. I think  Thats really heavy for a control line plane. ::)

Hi, Craig.
I tried the ENYA 60 4S in a C/L plane years ago.
The plane was the original Red Baron which I was using for a 4S test bed.
Very smooth, very quiet and a bit anemic.
Also, as you stated, VERY HEAVY.
Believe it or not, the ENYA 53 4S weighs less and makes considerably more power.
I tried a number of other different 4S engines, ENYA 46, ENYA 60, ENYA 53 (2), OS 70, SAITO 56, SAITO 80, SAITO 62, SAITO 72, OS  52, OS 48 and a Lazer (not sure what size).
The ENYA 53 was the best.

Thanks Robert for the info. How big was your red baron. Plane? Wing span and length?  How much tail weight did you need to add to balance it out?

Hi, Craig.
The Red Baron was a Windy Urtnowski design, originally powered by a Super Tiger 60.
60 inch span as I recall. The Red Baron is basically a Patternmaster.
Very similar to the Brodak Strega.

When I got it, I did some minor refurbishing and then started experimenting.
With the ENYA 53, it weighed just under 80 ounces and flew beautifully.
Surprisingly, the ENYA 46 flew it quite well also.
When Windy flew it, he said it flew better than with the Super Tiger.

Regarding engine weights, you can see from the photos.
I did not have to shorten the nose.

Bob,
I notice on your Enya that you have turned the crank housing 90 degrees compared to mine.

Was it on a profile, and if so,do you feel it oils better if drippings come out of the bottom ?

Or,were you just trying to direct some of the goo outward ?
Mike
