What are you guys using in Saito's and O.S. engines?
-
I've just been using the OS type F and i get it from hobby people. Tower sells them also for 8.99
-
Same as everybody else-type F

I have come into possession of some Fox 4 stroke glow plugs. They are the standard US thread. But they have the tapered cone end like a Nelson plug. Do 4 stoke engines have the type of head that needs these plugs?
-
Yes, the OS-F also has the little cone on the end. Guessing it helps keep it hot between power strokes.
I don't do that much flying anymore but other than putting an OS-F in after break-in can't remember when I ever replaced a plug in any of my four strokes. They seem to last forever.
-
I think the conical end of the plug is intended to fit into a purpose-build receptacle in the head.
I'm afraid these plugs will go too far into a regular head and cause trouble. These Fox plugs look like scaled-down versions of the Nelson plugs that bottom out into the cone and don't use gaskets.

Dennis,
Are you actually going to run glow engines again?

I have been running 4-stroke engines for well over twenty years, including OS Surpass, Non-Surpass and Wankels, ENYA and SAITO.
I have NEVER had a plug fail.
I use the plugs that come with the SAITO engines - I have no clue what they are but my SAITO 30 has well over 500 flights with same plug.
I ran it for the most part on Brodak 10/23, 50-50 castor-synthetic and Powermaster 20/20.

My Saitos came with Hanger9 4 stroke plugs & I now use them in my 2 strokers.

My experience has been that the OS "F" plug will keep on ticking long
after a Saito plug will stop the engine (mid-flight) in it's tracks.
On cold days (45-55 F) at sea level I was often flying with %5 nitro fuel and the
Saito plug would "flame out" for no apparent reason in mid flight. The OS
pug never waivered.
During the warmer days of spring and summer as well as at contests in
southern climates, I use 15% nitro fuel (Wildcat) with all synthetic oil.
The OS plugs seem to last forever.

PS : Low nitro fuel can set the plane on fire more easily.

OS-F! Well worth the money.
