F2C world records from Muncie.
« on: September 12, 2024, 08:02:36 PM »
I just now noted that there was a slight change to the FAI Rules that somewhat degraded the performance of the teams.
Therefore the FAI world records were wiped.
I noted that the best qualifying score of 3:10 was a bit slower than the 3:00 scores that have been posted in the past.
But with this new (to me anyway) knowledge in hand, the 3:10 flown a Muncie was the best score in the history of the world (Earth) under the current rules.

And the 200 lap final as well.

Both were processed to be submitted to the FAI.

Just to clarify, the F2C rules have been changed to eliminate the use of retractable landing gear (or should I say undercarriages?) beginning in 2024. The best 100 lap and 200 lap performances in the World Championships were submitted for new records. I got to examine and process both models, assisted by Mike Greb and Henry Nelson.

I'm a fan of the event, but not a competitor.  I notice many fine U-Tube videos of the best races.

In view of the many rounds of qualifying and semifinals with three men up, there are hundreds of chances every year to break the 100-lap record.  There are a few, but not many, 3:00 scores posted.

On the other hand, there is only one 200-lap final at every contest, and thus few chances to break that record.

Thank you for the explanation of the rules change.  Does anybody know if the old records were set with retractable undercarriages?  I would guess that the answer is no.

A couple of points,  Paul.

First, these F2C records can only be set at Category 1 events,  i.e., Continental or World Championships.

Second, given the performance increase using retractable gear, it is very unlikely that the record was set NOT using them.  Of course to be100% certain,  the old record dossier could be obtained from the FAI.
