Title: One for the Gurus with good memories
Post by: Greg Rodney on July 18, 2016, 07:52:08 PM
Hi all, About 4 or 5 yrs ago I bought the Brodak 1/2A electric package. My first electric. It flew sorta OK. It kept a slab wing 20 incher out of the grass...barely
Arrowind 2205/22, 12amp esc, 7.4v x 800ma, 6 x 5.5 prop. This output about 12K rpm.
Fast forward another slab wing experimental.
Same setup BUT with an 11.1v x 1000ma and still only getting 12,210rpm.
I checked battery volts with a meter and got 12.85 after a 1C charge
According to Arrowind's site this is a 1650KV motor so in theory I should be getting 18,315rpm on 11.1v.
Does anyone know or remember if the earlier 12A ESCs were limited some how?
I'm getting 12,210rpm from either the 7.4v or the 11.1v HB~> HB~> HB~>

It's bad enough I went to the "DARK SIDE" of electric control line but now I'm REALLY gettin the raspberries from the rest of the club members over this!
Something about leaking electrons all over the field LL~ LL~

I do not know what ESC they are selling, but on a Castle ESC you must program the battery voltage into the ESC

It sounds like maybe a governor in the ESC, keeping it at the low RPM?  Or a governing timer -- is it a KR?  If it's a Hubin, what flavor?  What ESC?

I'm sure that Dennis A will have the answer when available from Nats.

My guess is this package

http://brodak.com/electric-power-package-for-1-2a-series-does-not-include-plane.html

and this explanation of how it works

http://stunthanger.com/smf/gettin-all-amp'ed-up!/timers-20592/?PHPSESSID=cb26ff4b4f684b164b2ba1df9afcb952;wap2

Most likely the Hubin FM-Oe timer with 100% throttle for 3 minutes, neither adjustable.  Simulates a .049 run.  The nonadjustable throttle must not change with voltage either, so perhaps the 100% is a set rpm.

Thanks all of you for piping in. Just for the helm of it I slapped one of my 14.8 on it and I'm still getting 12,210 actual tach reading.
Yes that is the Brodak package I have and it is the FM-0e timer. I have an older Hubin FM-9 I will try this morning and pipe back in.
