Title: Greg's Planes and Cars youtube
Post by: phil c on March 07, 2023, 09:00:11 AM
Greg is a long timer on youtube evaluating just about any plane that you might be interested in.  He goes from the Wright Brothers all the way to space shuttles with a heavy emphasis on military planes.

For example, he has a 3 part exam of the evolution of the Grumman Hellcat and how the "timing", design, and care that Grumman took to build a plane that could almost land at full speed and not hurt the pilot.- plus the "Cat" was so sturdy and strong it could protect the pilots and bring them back alive while flaying opponents with 6 .50 cal M2 Browning machine guns.

Plus Greg is a long time airline pilot and has managed to build stashes of historic material to write histories on almost any plane that has flown.

Highly recommended. He doesn't shy away from the engineering details, which makes it much more interesting.

There was a reason that they used to call Grumman "The Ironworks...."

I'm with Phil on these videos.

Meaning they realized that they could build airplanes a lot faster than they could train new pilots - a point lost on almost all the WW II participants, until it was far too late.
