I'm setting up a new "Score" with a Supertigre 51 moter. Will a Brodak 4 oz. widewedgetank be large enough? Or what other options do I have?

Hi Ronald,
I don't think it will be big enough. I always used a 5 1/2 oz tank with my Tigre .51s.
If the tank compartment isn't big enough then I would probably use a 6 oz. clunk tank.

Put a 6 ounce tank in it, either a metal uniflow or a plastic 6 OZ plumbed uniflow

I'd suggest running the engine on the bench with maybe a 4 ounce tank (or whatever size is handy) at the tune/prop/fuel you intend flying with and time it. I didn't do this with my G51 and just fitted a 6 ounce tank in the new model, flew it and 13 minutes later.......

Brian, don't you run 'em without any nitro? That will make a lot of difference. Mine used about 5.5 oz of 10%, depending on weather and prop load. Zero nitro fuel may not be easy to find here in a hobby shop. H^^

It took some creativity with a razor saw, hobby knife, and extended bits, shaving and drilling the bulkheads to get the 6 oz. wide wedge Brodak tank in place. I just reattached the wing this evening and it fits very snuggly. Next I will fill a few stray holes with epoxy to strengthen thing up and attach the fuel tubing. Then to the bench with the motor to make sure it is running well and starting easily. I hope to put this new baby in the air by Easter!!! Looking forward to flying the SCORE! Thanks for the insights gentlemen.

True, I don't use nitro, which of course would need a larger tank because of higher fuel consumption, but after that first flight I went to a 3 ounce tank and still had a slight over run so had to withdraw a small amount from a full tank (that's for an FAI pattern). The reason I suggested checking fuel consumption on the test stand was because engines can vary quite a lot in how they consume fuel. I'll grant that my G51 seems to be remarkably fuel efficient, far more than I would have thought possible, but it taught me a lesson to not just assume what size tank to use. With its very low fuel (and oil) consumption I had to use 25% oil instead of my usual 20% to stop it from overheating.

If you are going to try to run that motor on no nitro you should use a bigger venturie, and make sure you only use the one thin head shim, otherwise running such a tiny amount of fuel thru to a pattern will shorten engine life because of the small amount of oil used in a pattern. Also that engine will be more stunt friendly with a little nitro

Listen to Randy.....I use a 6 oz plastic plumbed uniflow on pressure on my Tigre .51...also do what Randy says(in his other column) and don't run straight castor oil...use a 50/50 blend about 22% oil...works really good for me !
