This one is an early to mid '50s Super Sport .36.  Just remove that little tank and run one like you would on any other engine.  Most people did just that.  That little bitty tank is a left over from gasoline/spark days.  Not a large amount of power, but enough to fly a Super Clown, Ringmaster S-1, etc., fairly well if it is in good shape.  28% oil, over half castor, 5% nitro to start.  Maybe a half a notch below a Fox .35 in power.  10-5, 10-6 prop, launch around 8800-9000 rpm.

Thanks, Bill! I thought that was a small tank, 2-3 oz at most. There should be a small hole in the back plate for the tank screw. I'm sure I can just put a short screw in there to seal it up. I have this thing about old guns, planes and cars. They should be used, not hid away.

Hi Bill,

On mine, there is a boss in the middle of the backplate for the tank screw, but it is not drilled all the way through.  Nothing to seal up.

Good info. I had a feeling synthetic oil would be no good for it. Any engine run for along time on mineral-based oils just get loose when synthetics are used. Straight castor it is. Now that I have the fuel line on correctly (and am not missing anything) I'll run it on a test stand and see how she does. It'll need a modern prop. The one that's on it appears to be marked "Super Dynamic".
