Not just another Fox .35.  I was fortunate to obtain one of Bob Gieske's own engines that surely put in a bunch of patterns in a red Nobler.  Today I put it on the stand and it fired up in a couple flips and sounded great.  I have a Gieske Nobler kit and soon this engine will be grunting through the pattern again.

I'm not sure it's exact vintage but it has the tumble polish case which should date it.

I like those modern PA needle valve assemblies Randy Smith sells for the Fox 35. Might make a nice engine even better.

I'm sure they could be an improvement.  Because of its historic/nostalgic nature this one though will stay intact as Bob used it.  It feels pretty good but if I think it's over the hill I may drop a newer sleeve and piston in but we'll see.  I have other engines and might just let this one be a shelf jewel if need be.

The reason I ask is because I bought an old 2 bolt sand cast 35 probably from the same seller.
Mine also belonged to Bob Gieseke.

Yes a family friend was selling his stuff.  I knew for sure it was his because of wood screw mounting marks on the lugs.  Bob mounted these early on- maybe always with wood screws rather than machine screws.

   If you have a good combination of needle and spraybar,  the stock units work fine.

And,a short piece of fuel line between the needle and spraybar eliminates that possible air leak.
I've never had a problem with the stock set up.

No.  I don't believe a muffler was ever used on any of Bob's Fox Noblers.  He flew them a few years into the .46 era.  When he went larger the mufflers were used.  I last remember seeing Bob fly the Fox the year Jim Casales first won with  the Tigre .60.  I can tell you first hand that Jim's Tigre WITH muffler was noticeably louder than Bob's Fox without!

   As long as you run it on 5% it's not the end of the world as far as noise goes. 15% *greatly* increases the sharpness of the noise along with a copious increase in power.

     I never ran my Fox with a muffler but I don't know if I could manage it any more!
