Using Stored Engine

(1/1)

George:
When you guys bring an old engine out of storage what do you do to get it ready to fly?
I normally oil it, flip it some, flush it out with fuel, and install it in a plane. This is assuming it is already oiled before storing.

A few months ago I reassembled an engine I had stored as a box of parts (needed repair). When reassembling that engine I noticed that the wrist pin was stuck to the conrod with dryed castor. Not a problem, just removed the wrist pin and cleaned it and the conrod.

I have heard of stuck conrods ruining a wrist pin to piston fit because of this problem. Has anyone had this happen? Do you normally completely disassemble an engine and check for this? Will after-run oil prevent it from happening?

What about rings? Do you make sure they are not stuck in place?

Your thoughts?

Apologies. This is also posted on another forum but I thought I'd ask it here too.
