Not that I would ever do such a thing.. :-[.. but have any of you used your wife's ultrasonic jewelry cleaner to clean engine parts? Do you think that it might remove anodizing?

Hi John
An ultra sonic cleaner does not do well cleaning a used motor, you will be better off with a dip carb cleaner, or hot crock pot with AntiFreeze
Removing the anodizing would depend on which chemical you clean it with

Hi ,
I use an U/S cleaner that heats to 175 degrees F and it does a very good job on "gunky" engines and components , but I have never tried it on an anodized motor , or parts .

Heads up.... My ultrasonic cleaner can quickly wreck a ball bearing by setting up a sympathetic vibration so the balls dent the races. No need to repeat the experiment, so please don't. Tom H.

The ball bearings , venturie, o Rings, paper gaskets ,etc. should always be removed before you clean the motor.

The crock pot and anti freeze will remove the blue on the OS LA engines. I did that to a .40 that was inconsistant until I removed lthe coloring, what ever it is. As stated don't use ultra sonic cleaner to clean ball bearings.
