Title: Tank for PA 65
Post by: Clint Ormosen on November 23, 2010, 07:53:22 PM
I've read that a PA 65 will need about 7 ounces of fuel for the pattern, but the nose of the Legacy I'm building will only allow a 6" tank to be installed. I've not had any luck using plastic tanks. Anyone have a metal uniflow design that will hold enough fuel and fit in about 6" of space?

I picked up a few from RSM ,,they were a long version of his thick profile tank. You will need to go to Eric's site & browse his tanks to see what I mean, I think they are 1 1/2 " thick but please look for sure. 5" tank is about 7 ounces ... I hope this helps.

I got a metal tank from Randy Smith just the other day for this problem in my SV-11...its shorter and thicker and drops right in.  In other words
a six inch tank but holds 7-1/2 ounces.  Made and sold by John Brodak...Check out the "Magnum Tanks".  Or just call Randy at  Aero Products.

Geez.... I didn't know they used up to 7 oz.  But I don't have a .65 either, yet one COULD be in the future a possibility.  Does it help to use smaller venturi, longer pipe, or 5% nitro?  I shoot for 6:30 with 5.3 lap times.

I have had upwards of 8.5 oz in a 6" length. Just make it thicker - there's no rule that says it has to be 1" thick and 2" wide. Mine big one is about 2 1/4 wide (which is about what you need to fit the engine in, anyway), and 1 3/8" thick.

When I was running the PA61, I was using around 7.6 oz of 10% (here)/15% (Muncie).  That was either with a 12.5-3.75 3-blade (Eather flatback) or 11.5-3.6 3-blade (Eather undercambered), #5 spigot venturi, etc (usual crap we have posted over and over). I would set up the 65 the same way and it will use the same amount of fuel.

Thanks guys, I'll check out those options.

Brett, your tank sounds homemade. No?
