Wanted to know if anyone has ever tried the following...
I have a drawer full of Super Tigre GS-40 R/C engines and I wondered if it work to put the venturi and needle valve from the GS .34 C/L engine, like this one...
http://www.activepowersports.com/supertigre-12164303-carburetor-g34-c-l-12164303/
Seemed like a simple conversion unless I'm missing something obvious.

Dunno if THAT one FITS . The G-51 One Does , However .
As it is the same :-X Er Fits the ' V ' 60 , Any ST 60 Venturie set up is compatable with the GS 40 .
Fit is the same as the G 51 , plus or minus a few mm at the prop driver .

Thanks for the quick reply! I should mention that I went downstairs to the shop with every intention of experimenting with turning a Venturi on the lathe, but the needle valve/spray bar setup from the RC carb is a totally different design and I decided it was impractical to try to convert it. A brainstorm I just had was to use a universal remote needle valve assembly and then I could easily turn a Venturi for the CL intake. I don't know, it's cold and raining.

Thanks for the link to that supplier! I can use a couple ST needle valve assemblies. But as to your question:
I just checked three Super Tigers mentioned, the 34 and 51 controlline engines as well as the 40 R/C, I have one of each and just measured them. The venturi for the 51 and the carb for the 40 have outer diameters of 13.95 mm and the casting has an opening of 14mm. Figures for the 34CL are 11.97 and 12 mm respectively. So you want the venturi assembly for the 51.
Hmmm... Added: I don't see the venturi and needle valve sold as an assembly there, like the 34's is. You'd need to get the venturi for $9.99 and the NVA for $8.99.
BTW, has anyone ordered Super Tiger parts from this site? Just wondering what their stock situation normally is...

That is precisely the info I needed. Whether the engine will run worth a darn for control line use is another issue entirely, I'm positive RC and CL engines have different port timing and other differences, but I'm going to try it anyway!

I'd suggest posting a "WTB ST G.51 Venturi/Spraybar" in the Classifieds here. Lots of us have had G.51's modified by the late Tom Lay, who drilled through the venturi boss and installed the spraybar there. I'm not sure what Randy Smith's rework uses, but he would also be a very likely source...and his NV Assy. is absolutely the finest available. He's the Moderator of this particular forum, so if you just click on his name, you'll be able to send him a "PM".
I will have to check to see if I have a stock-type G.51 venturi or not, but it seems likely. If you suspect the G.51 venturi is too big, you can pile a few layers of pantyhose nylon mesh on and secure with an o-ring. A few head gaskets might be useful also. I don't know anything about this ST GS.40...is it ringed or ABC? I'm not a fan of ringed engines... D>K Steve

Steve: THIS IS GREAT!!!!
"In 1944 18-20 year old's stormed beaches, and parachuted behind enemy lines to almost certain death.
In 2015 18-20 year old's need safe zones so people don't hurt their feelings."
Sad that it's so true - can you imagine if the youth of the 40s was of the same mindset as today youth?
We'd be speaking German or Japanese now.
Sorry for the digression.

Troy: A few years back, I modified a Super Tiger 34 for stunt.
Let me know if you're interested on the mods I made.
With a 10-4 prop, it ran consistent and provided a very good stunt run, constant speed the whole flight.
I flew it on a Sig Banshee.

Bob,
I would be most interested in your modifications to the ST-34. I would like
to tame mine for a stunt run.
Thank you,

Hi, Richard.
OK, here's a capsule summary. By the way, it started out as an RC engine.
1) I radiused out the head leaving a .030 squish band, tapered upward 15 degrees.
2) I installed a standard venturi after cross drilling the case. As I recall, .270 venturi ID, OS Max needle valve assembly. I'm not sure if this would yield better performance than the original venturi and ST NVA but it's just a preference of mine.
3) Since the engine seemed to run cool, I machined off some of the fins, both on the case and head.
4) Standard metal tank, non uniflow, Brodak 10-23 50/50.
The engine ran quite well in what I would describe as a fast four stroke.
It was very easy to start, hot or cold and had good latitude on needle valve adjustment.
Around 3 1/2 ounces of fuel for the pattern.
I have all my Super Tiger engines packed away but when I find it, I'll post a picture - OK?
Hope this helps,
Bob Z.

Google the reviews on the that website, very poor. I'd stay away from them.

Measured it the other day , China GS 40 ringed , head off , using a flash light to define closing point , & Classic Bike degree wheel . ;D
got 74 / 56 = 148 / 112 Ex. Trans ( & boost ) . Eng No. 0604 . H^^

Mine are GS40 ringed made in Italy, probably 20-30 years old. I just don't fly much RC anymore and I'm on the electric band wagon there anyway. But I still like CL Stunt (recreationally, I'm sure no competitor) and I would like to build a couple airplanes for my son and I to fly.
