Super Tigre G20/.23 engine for stunt?
« on: April 09, 2014, 01:43:16 PM »
     Hello:

Is this engine suitable to use in lieu of the "modern" .25 engines? It is light at about 5oz. and seems to have the power of at least a Fox.35 Stunt. Would it fly the 400sq" profiles of yesterday.Plane like the Magician, Flite Streak.Buster,Shoestring ringmaster etc? I have flown some of these planes with the Veeco .19 and it had enough power to pull these planes well.

I have not tached the .23 engine yet but it likes to scream when leaned out to max speed. Perhaps a 9
x4, 9X5,9X6 or an 8X6 prop would work well with this engne.  What prop speeds and sizes are people seeing from the "modern" .25 engines?

Any comments or experiences wth this engine?

Anyplace where I can find an Engine Review type of article?

                                                                                   Tia.

I've flown one on a large Flite Streak.  Had to go to 1/8 in venturi hole and 9 x 4 prop to slow it down to stunatable speed.

I had one and it was pretty powerful by standards of the day. Figure it's a little better than a Veco 19, so it will fly the lighter 35-size profiles you mention adequately. It's no match for the 20FP, 25FP, or "new" 25LA but the 25s at least are overkill for these sorts of models.

Theres a series one with a square port for the exhaust in the liner . unmuffled theser quicker . particularly with a piece missing in the piston . sub piston induction . obviously silenced cuts the grunt .
so they did a series two , with a crecent lower edge to the ex in the liner - so the ends of the piston dont get unvailed or sumsuch . With the muffler these are better , as theyve no sub piston induction .

seem to like a 9 x 4 or thereabouts .
