Super Tigre 60
« on: December 05, 2007, 05:49:41 PM »
I have a ST 60 RC version that I will get a NVA and Venturi for from Randy Smith. My question is this: Will it run well without any rework or does it need to be worked by someone to get a good 2-4 run from it? Does anyone have the same engine and can answer?

If you get the spigot type (sprinkler) venturi rather than the needle valve that goes thru the venturi it will run the same and as strong as all others although alot will say the T&L has more torque due to Tom heat treating the piston/liner and reducing friction on the bearings and doing some secret internal mods. I would recommend replacing the piston ring getting one from Frank Bowman (who at the present time is not reworking any engines, just selling parts). Get a tube muffler from Randy Smith and you'll be all set. This is the set up I use and am quite happy with it.

Hi

Is this a new stock ST 60? If it is in good shape it will run just fine without any rework .  You will neeed a proper venturie and a good  muffler, Most people use a 13 x 6 2 blade or 12x6 3 blade on the ST 60. There are several more prop sizes too that will work.

Randy

Hi

That is a very old ST 60, Looks to be pushing 40  .. ,can you look inside and see if it has one or  two rings?  can you tell how much it has been run?

Hi Richard

The twin ring has a  short rod, that, in everyone I have seen is unbushed, the twin ring run OK but does not put out the power of the later ones, If you have  twin ring engine it is better to run a strong 4 cycle as it wears out parts much faster. and  does not 4-2 as fast as the 60 single rings normally do. Many of The single ring version also ran a little smoother with less vibration.

Randy,
Do you sell mufflers for these older Supertiger engines? I need one for the older .40 that requires muffler straps, a couple of .46's and a .51 that has the taped hole in a web in the exhaust.
Thanks, Artie

Hi Artie

I do not sell mufflers with the straps, however it is an easy process to take one of my cnc tongue mufflers and  buy a  stainless steel radiator clamp from an auto parts and just bolt it onto the muffler.  So you can put mufflers on the engines you would like to. People do this all the time
