Title: Super Tigre .56
Post by: Mike Griffin on August 27, 2019, 02:39:50 PM
Was the Super Tigre .56 a popular engine?  I do not see many of them in use.

Thanks
Mike

The 45 / 51 / 56 PLAIN BEARING is where the S T 51 / 56 / 60 ' V ' Ball Race started , or is the derivative from . Therefore ,

To further digresify , The Dixon ' LITE ' Double Star serie would be comparable . Presumeably .

plus thered be a degree of parts intercahangeability wiyh the ST 51 , 56 , 60 ball race ' V ' series .

These seem to be dual ring . ( rantings supositions or speculations ) so would be the ' short rod ' variety . as per Dual Ring 60 .
Im told the 56 & 60 DONT share the same head bolt pattern .
ST 60 liners are 26 mm o.d. dual ring . 26.5 mm o.d. single ring .

Obviously the train of thought is toward cramming a 60 liner in the plain bearing 56 .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As to why & who , apparently its just the power . relative to displacement . Weight is same , give or take . on all the BALL RACE 51, 56 , 60 .
ANYWAY . With the further evidance the P D P 60 uses less fuel than the B B 51 or 56 . 60 heres the 4 window normal looking head version .
Not the concave head three window . From our secret labratory in Dushanbe;

Some pictures to I.D. the' LITE ' plain bearing 56 . Obvious is the case , B B is longer on the large diameter portion , to contain the rear ball race
apparently these ( or some of these ) hace the taper for the prop driver on the shaft itself . Rather than the Collet Arrangement

As to the ORIGINAL QUESTION , through past contest / meeting results , in the U.S. , occasionally you see S T 56 , usually the B B , Id think .

I have a .56 that I am planning to eventually put into a Shark 45.
Any recommendations of expected fuel burn and tank size requirements?
Thanks guys and gals.

Yes  put in a  6 ounce  or slightly larger tank, If your going to run high Nitro use 7 ounce tank

I usually fly on a ST 60V. But I tried to fly on ST56V. I have a tank of about 145 ml. It is enough for the pattern. I used fuel with 10% nitro. ST60V with PDP ports is more economical.
I have an engine modified by Tom Lay.
