Title: Super tigre 51 with Brian's piston set
Post by: patrick on August 17, 2019, 02:50:29 AM
Anyone here tested or flown this set up for super tigre? Did mine after running in. Flown 3 flight. Still needs to trim the model (Sv11) with brodak uniflow tank.
Still need to sort out why when reaching last 1 min flight time the engine will run richer. The engine is easy to start with good power. Really like the engine.

pardon my ignorance, but would it have been better to use an aluminum venture drilled and tapped to accept a spigot style nva, thus not having to drill through the case for st spray bar? is there a performance difference?  new to this joe hunt

      Hi:

What is the size of the opening in the Venturi?

                                               Thanks,

Joe... To me no much diff in using a aluminium venturi just maybe for standard venturi style from super tigre I do see some fuel spitting out. As derlin venturi is easier to lathe out and also I have another St 51 from Tom Lay which I have not run and both using derlin venturi n spray bar position I can interchange them.
My venturi hole should be 6.5mm if memory serve me right... 🤔

Patrick,

What plug are you running? Thunderbolt  4 cycle/big bore is good

What fuel are you running?

I have experienced this with other engines, specifically the Evo 60 and LA-46 as well as ST-51's. What these engines have in common is lots of big cooling fins leading me to suspect that running a rich 2/4 break style they run too cool. Best fix (for me anyway) has been to run them a little harder, faster, and with more of a prop load. Your mileage may differ.  8)

Hey nice to see the maker of the piston set here... I am currently running OS A3 plug but might consider running Enya plug. Fuel is byron with 20% oil and 10% nitro.

Is the A3 plug short reach? That won't be helping.

20% oil - what type of oil? Not all castor is it?

Yeah, those A3 plugs may be a good plug but are a "tweener" reach in that they are a thread shorter than long reach and a thread longer than short reach, if I remember correctly. They may work OK for small bore engines that require short reach and may work as designed with one washer, but you can always add another washer if too long. I wouldn't risk a good model on them in place of something that is correct. Another thing I don't like is no idle bar to let junk collect on and protect the element.
   Type at you later,

Any others here flown this piston set in a super tigre 51?
