I would like to know if you can put an idle bar glow plug in a Os Max 40fp or OS Max 46 engine without causing damage to the top of the piston. I ask this because I have a OS MAX 40 FP that runs great but as soon as you try to pull inverted loops it is as if the glow plug gets flooded and some times kills the engine other times it causes the engine to cut out but it comes back to life when back to level flight.

Yes, it was originally designed to use an idle bar plug and they work fine. I am less certain that this will solve your problem, but one way to find out.

I often run the idle bar plugs in my .40 FP in carrier and they work great.

40FP-s are also RC engines. Mine is converted to CL with an OS venture. It will accept a plug with an idle bar with hitting the piston.

I always run idle bar plugs in my engines. I feel it gives carbon and other junk some place to grab onto instead of the glow filament, and have seen this several times over the years. It may help also in keeping extra oil from putting the plug out. My plug of choice in the Glow Devil R/C long with Idle bar. If I can't get those, Thundebolt long with idle bar. Third choice is K&B R/C long with idle bar.

What kind of plug are you using? Not all plugs are created equal. In my experiences I have had best luck with a hotter plug like a thunderbolt or a Sig.

Is your tank in the proper position? Upright lap times = Inverted lap times? I have had this problem with a Banshee even though I run an idle bar plug. Moving my tank up 1/8 inch was my answer.

I don't have much experience with these although Chellie (Fox and McCoy expert -Utube) is probably the best person to ask.

She suggested I use on in my McCoy 29 and it runs great. - Also discovered one in my newly aquired Fox 36X upon stripping it prior to run-in (why do people keep fitting the liners back to front on these motors?).
