How does one balance a spinner?
« on: August 24, 2013, 01:13:04 PM »
     Hi All:

I was having a bad time with fuel foaming bad runs etc. and I traced the problems to the spinner being out of balance.

The spinner is an "expensive" brand with the aluminum backplate. correct shaft adapters ,aluminum junction nut. centre screw in spinner and great care was made to make the cutouts for the prop symetrical.  Despite all of the care, the thing vibrated very badly!  How does one balance the spinner assembly?

Perhaps plastic is not the material of choice but aluminum would be superior.  Is the Fox metal spinners the answer? Of course, the Fox spinners would have to balanced also!

An airplane is not complete with the crankshaft hanging out of the front of the plane! Lol

      Suggestions?

                                                                                                       Tia,

                                                                                                       Frank

is this a plastic spinner, if so use one of the magnetic or wheel balancers  with the rods and collector cones, put the spinner together with the backplate, run the rod thru snug the cones up tight and put on the wheels or magnets.  you may want to spin it 180 degrees if it it far out, then mark the backplate and spinner shell so you will know how to assemble it.

I was told to do as Randy suggested, even works on the aluminum ones. I have to warn you it is fairly tedious to get the spinner balanced.
