I know that APC 9x4 is a commonly recommended prop for this engine, so I bought 6. The prop shaft holes are so far off center that it's visible by eye. When spinning it on Dubro prop balancer, blades are out of track and it won't balance consistently between spins. For over $2.00 each, that is BS. Does anyone know of another prop that will give a good run on an FP 20? Do I need to invest in brass rod and a drill press just to correct factory defective props?

Ken,
I have been running the Thunder Tiger 9X4.5 props on my FP20's and like them a lot. They are lighter than the APC and don't have the offset hole problems. The hole for the prop shaft is slightly under 1/4", so needs to be drilled out slightly. They are close on balance and airplane speeds are about the same as with APC 9X4. They are, however, still a light grey color.

I'd call APC and request replacements. They are NOT bad folk, just sometimes have QC problems. Don't rant, just explain the problem.

Having made some tooling to fix the APC 9-4 props with off-center holes, the last batch of six that I bought were completely to specification.

Results may vary--in fact, that is undoubtedly true--but I still find the APC 9-4 to be the benchmark prop for use on the 20FP. And the 25 LA, for that matter.

In other words, knock yourself out when it comes to fiddling with props. But at least have something which is known to work and work well to use as a standard of comparison.

The way I fly, I can't afford to give up practice time to fiddling with props:) . I've tried several others on my LA 25 and none worked as good as the APC 9x4, just kind of frustrating to buy a bag of 6 and 4 or 5 have an offset hole. I called APC and they said send them back for replacement. The 9x4 is the only APC prop I've had this problem with (twice now). All the 11.5x4's I've bought have been fine.
