Brodak .40 Needle Valve Assembly
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:42:20 AM »
The other day when I punched my new "Artic Fox", not only did I destroy the cowl and nose block, I bent the spray bar of the B-40 engine.  Had a tough time getting it out of the case/venturi.  Of course the needle itself was broken off flush with the spray bar.  Went to Brodak site and it states they are sold out.  So I had a Super Tigre Needle Valve Assembly laying on the bench.  The hole is just a littleoff center, but, I don't think it is off that much.  It fits the engine with the exception of the spray bar hole.  Still need to bench run it.  DOC Holliday

Randy Smith will have a PA NV Assy that will bolt right in. They're made in USA, and if you once try one, you'll never want a ST or Brodak NV Assy. again...they ARE that good.  y1 Steve

Thanks guys.  I tightened it up.  I have 15 runs in and it will soon take its first flight.  I will probably do about five more short runs of 1-2 minutes.

Sorry,  I didn't notice there were two articles about the B 40 NVA.  I replied to the wrong one.

Doc,
A friend showed up at my place a while back with an ST needle in a Brodak spray bar assembly and while it was possible to move the needle I don't recall it being easy to set for a good run.  Upon inspection we found that the needles had been mixed and when the Brodak needle was put back in, things went much smoother.
FWIW,
John

Hi Doc,

I will second the emotion from Steve about the PA NVAs.  They are better than the ST due to the NV locking nut having a nylon (or something) sleeve in them.  You can barely tighten the nut to get it air tight and the needle will not move unless you move it.  The ST NVAs seem to always need to be re-tightened from time to time.  The NV in the PA stays put and it is air tight.  The best NVAs ever produced, IMHO.
