Stuck Piston

Yet another tale of Fox 35 woe!   :'(

I got a used engine, and want to take it apart, but the conrod is stuck to the piston pin and won't slide enough to remove the piston from the engine.  I have tugged, torched, used Liquid Wrench soak, and beaten on it with a punch.

Any ideas?  H^^

Not including the Fox Hurl, it isn't a 15.  LL~

I only really need the crankcase and crankshaft, so if I get desperate, I can cut the rod and scrap the piston and liner. Rather not, though as the compression is excellent.

Don't the Fox's have a clip in there to complicate things, and to give you a chance to exercise your vocabulary when it softly goes "piiiiiiiiiiiing" across the width of your shop?

Larry,

What I've done in the past is to heat it up with my torch (Yes, I know you said that) and use an allen wrench for leverage on the con rod to get it to move. So far, I've been completely successful.

Also soaking it in anti freeze/crock pot for a couple days might help.

Soak it in PB Blaster, then use a little heat, and  pull the  rod toward the back of the piston and case

    Hi Larry:

    Gerald gave you some great advice! I have used heat and an allen wrench to move stuck rods in the past.  I have had 100% success with this method!

     If you are a little nervous about using a torch or heat gun, try placing the engine in an oven at 300deg F.  I will bet that you will be able to move the rod on the wrist pin.

     I use the toaster oven as it takes very little time to attain 300deg. F

    Put it in the oven at about 250-300 degrees, and wait. That almost always works.

I have soaked old engines in a 50/50 solution of acetone and ATF overnight and then used a small Allen key 'hockey sticked' under the rod at the little end - once you can get a fraction of movement the acetone/ATF readily floods in and loosens things up rapidly.

The Allen key (hex head) really helped here regardless of the system used.

  Heat the engine up ( crock pot, oven, torch ) turn upside down and pour in some Dqwn Platinum  power cleaner .use allen,if the rod moves at all the P/D will penetrate in no time . works good on S/T's
