Fuel Foaming, Armor All?
« on: March 25, 2009, 07:47:56 AM »
I'm having a pretty severe fuel foaming problem with some of my setups on Open B RC Combat.  There's an old stunt trick where you add a little bit of Armor All to the fuel and the silicone in the Armor All prevents or reduces the problem.  I tried a test tank yesterday and it did, in fact, help.  However, can anyone provide guidance as to how much Armor All is needed?  A couple drops per gallon? An ounce per gallon? How much?  Thanks!

One quick spray into 5 litres (about 1.3 gallons) is enough to do the trick. It's illuminating to give the can a really good shake to get the fuel foaming first then give a spray and watch what happens. Some say the silicone will foul the plugs but ArmorAll has been used here in Australia for maybe 30 years or so and no one has ever had a complaint. Some time ago just to see what might happen I poured some ArmorAll into a tank of fuel (maybe enough to treat 40 gallons at a guess) and ran the tank dry. The plug was still perfect.

Gary, put a drop in your gallon jug and shake it.  If it foams, add another drop.  We've found that dipping a toothpick into the Armoral  and then into the fuel is just about right for a gallon.

Armorall changed their formula(EPA stuff) a few years ago.  I haven't tried the new stuff.  If the new stuff doesn't work try getting some silicon lubricant and using a few drops of that.  It takes very little if it works at all.

Thanks Brian and  Phil!  It apparently doesn't take very much at all.
