SC brand engines

Who sells the SC brand of engines from China? I have a controline version (.36), it has a few issues, but I am willing to try to work through them. If I end up needing parts I would like to know of the source. Thanks in advance

Hi, Gordon - I've seen a lot of Chinese engines but never an SC. Sounds like a new brand to me.

Sure it isn't CS???

SC are the next down the line from ASP which is in turn a Magnum clone. I believe there is also one called DC or something similar. SCs are as far as I can tell, identical to the equivalent ASPs just with the different name insert cast into the side. I suspect that when the Magnum casting dies pass their use-by-date, they get re-badged for ASP use, then SC use etc. ASP and Magnum parts of the same series should be a drop-in replacement.

I think several brands ship out the same door of the same factory, but are distributed in different countries. We have Magnums, Australia gets ASP's, and I think England gets SC's and ASP's. I know Just Engines sold ASP's, and I seem to remember hearing about SC's in England. JE also sold LEO engines, which looked sorta similar, but different. Maybe SC's are relatives of the Magnums, and maybe they're something else. How about posting a picture of your .36? I'm curious.

If these engines all do come out of the same factory, I'd think that older tooling might become another brand, but then again, maybe they're all exactly the same.  Personally, while it is always interesting to play with an unusual engine, when it comes down to getting it to work HB~>, if you have almost zero chance of finding others with experience with that engine, you may come to regret the urge.  :'( Steve

According to the picture of the SC36 posted by their English distributor, it is the older round head version of the Magnum which is a bit heavier than the current version.

I just picked up the box from Bruce Malm today after we had a day long shooting session in front of his house. The box has a label from Just engines on it. If it is a round head version of a magnum are those parts available here in the states? Maybe Tower Hobbies?

Hobby People brings Magnums into the USA, and keep a good stock of the parts. If you have a parts list, the numbers will probably be mostly the same, tho HP doesn't use the factory numbers. The SC that I have looks like the one in the picture from Holt. It has a stunt venturi with the fuel nipple between the needle valve and the veturi (similar to ones used for remote needle valve assemblies) also the S is above the C on the side not next to it.

Yup, looks like a Magnum. Probably should run like a Magnum. I should add to my note above about Hobby People's parts numbers...they do show the factory numbers, but use their own numbers. Not sure why, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But as long as the parts are available and as good as the ones that come in the engines (instead of rejects, which seemed to be the case with ST in the 1960's), I'm ok with that.  VD~ Steve
