Substitutes for Grish Tornado tri-blade props?
« on: May 10, 2008, 07:51:30 AM »
It appears that Tony Jr. finally gave up the pretense, and even allowed his licensed site name to expire.  Are we now only able to choose between a few Master airscrew paint stirring paddles and relatively expensive Ozzie glass props when looking for better ground clearance?  I'd like to have had a couple of Grish's 12-6 tri-blade silver props on hand to match up to a Tigre V51 engine (I used the old style -- two blade -- TF 13-6, I'm pretty sure, the last try using that size ST engine).

Didn't Graupner sell tri-blades at some point, also?

Graupner still does. Look down the page for the 3 blade props.

Thanks, Alan, however, they only offer a limited selection of large ones at Hobby Lobby, so I'll see what I can find (later) with a few more Googles.  A 12-5 or 12-6 is what I had in mind.

The Master Airscrew 3 bladers are pretty darn good props, especially for the money.  They use a different way of measuring pitch(actual airfoil angle) rather than trying to eyeball to the more or less flat bottom of the prop, so the pitches sound high, but aren't.  Of course, the prop has to match your plane and engine, so they may not have a perfect match for you , out of the box.

I re pitch these by dipping them in boiling water and using a Prather pitch gauge, no problem. They are a cheap substitute for the carbon props. Nothing will compare to the carbon props but these are not bad. Master Airscrew

10x7 is really 10x5 or so, 11x7, 12x6  the are less pitch than advertised.
