Title: Saito 30 airplane choice?
Post by: Ken Deboy on October 13, 2006, 10:35:48 AM
What size airplane would be a good match for a Saito 30? I'm thinking of scaling down the wing and stab of a Cardinal and using them to make a "sorta scale" PT-19. What wing area and weight should I be shooting for? Maybe I should mention my flying field is at about 4500' elevation...

thanks,
Ken

Ken - see some of the other posts I've made regarding the SAITO .30.

Think about the Cardinette - around 420 square inches, 75% Cardinal aerodynamics.

Flies like a dream.

Do you know if the Cardinette will be available as a kit, or only as an ARF?

thanks,
Ken

Ken - at this point, I'm not sure. I favor a kit as it is so straightforward to build. Look for  my construction article in the premier issue of CL World.

However, I have the AFR prototype in my shop now and it really looks good.

Stay tuned.

HOWEVER, If you wish to scratchbuild - I did the first one in around two weeks - you can take the Cardinal Evolution plans and reduce them to 82%. That's what I did and it was perfect.
