many filters leak, that will cause poor runs  also check to see that it is free and clear of debris

check the filter for leaks - check there is no gunk in the spray bar, check your tank and fuel tubes for leaks  - check your plug.

Don't overlook the most obvious test -- does it run with fuel line and no filter? If so, it is a filter problem. If not, it is a tank / engine problem.

A lot of this stuff doesn't take a "nukular sturgeon"  ;)

I too had one of the little metal fuel filters.  We were having engine setting problems.  It ran great before.  So out come the syringes and pressure testing at the field.  Tank, lines and spray bar okay.  Noticed a little drop of fuel at the filter.  A small wrench and pliers fixed the problem.  Every was back to normal.  Even the little plastic filters will leak.  I take them apart and put s smear of silicone glue on the male part.

Every (IMHO) metal fuel filter should be taken out of the package and tweaked! Most used to tell you so on the pack. The plastic ones should be left in the store for the R / C ers.

Yup, my opinion there too!
