Extending tuned pipe stinger:how?
« on: June 03, 2007, 06:20:15 PM »
I have one of Randy's pipes with a stinger pointing down. Mounted in my current model, the bottom of the stinger is flush with pipe cover opening. I would like to extend it by another half an inch so there wouldn't be any oil in the pipe tunnel after a flight. I tried rubber exhaust deflectors. They look ugly, rub against the pipe cover and make the engine sound funny. They do keep oil out of the tunnel though.

My question(well, two) is:

Can I use a CF or Aluminum tube slipped inside(or over) the stinger?
Can I use regular epoxies(or JBWeld) or do I need the specialized high temp epoxies?

Hi Steven

I use a  short piece of the grey exhaust deflector, I don't let it touch the plane  and  it make the system a bit quieter.
However you can use a piece of  carbon tube  larger so it slips  over the exhaust tube that is in there now. clean it very well, rough both surfaces up and use  JB weld to bond it

Regards
Randy
