Can someone in the know tell me what the ring end gap should be in a Dykes ringed .35
Thanks gents Jim.

IT depends on MANY things, there is no 1 answer, How much cross hatch is cut into the sleeve, what is the sleeve made of?
Is it chromed or not?
does the sleeve have any taper?
The answer will vary from near zero to 4 thousands , it also will depend on roundness , and size of the bore

OK take no.2
It is a series 75 K&B shiney case with a steel.790 bore ,no discernible taper with a moderate? factory cross hatch pattern.
All parts are new old stock. Many thanks to those who have replied so far.

Thanks Mat, Lauri and Randy, I bought all the K&B left overs from a closing down hobby distributor a few years back here in Oz , there was enough parts to assemble 6-8 engines 3 of which are ringed .35s hence the original question.
thanks again gents Jim.

They look pretty good motors , from he info on sceptre flight .
No left hand K&B crankshafts in your stash ? . :-\ H^^

The series 75 .35 is very well built but porky, nice castings and internals, bronze main bush, I replaced the ring 'cause some one else had broke it, it not well finished so taking tine to come in, I gapped to sliding fit no appreciable gap
Mine may end up in a 3 line of some sort, mebee a profile grumann guardian

Hi JIm
Given that, If you want to break-in very careful, I would setup the Ring gap very tight from .001 to almost zero gap. You can turn it over by hand with light oil, in both directions very quickly for several minutes, Then run it only a a bench very sloppy rich for 1 to 3 minutes , Do this about 10 runs, Then start to lean it a a Lean 4 stroke. after a few more runs, pinch the fuel tube to let it burst 2 cycle for a couple of seconds,
Then last step, Run it into a 2 cycle for 15 seconds back to a 4 cycle, for 30 seconds and repeat
This will be the way to get a very good fit, All this based on a fairly good cross hatch but into the sleeve
Do NOt rush it
The main problem you may find is getting rings that have less than 5 to 12 thousands gap...new
I would use 25 to 28% oil with 1/2 synthetic 1/2 castor oil

Thanks gents, Randy I will do as you suggested with fuel and running in, I'm old school so not in any hurry to get it airborne.

Matt I haven't been through all the bits yet but from memory there were some L/H cranks, now If you wanted a k&B /veco .19 backplate no worries I have cornerd the Oz market . What engine is it for ?
Jim.

Youll have to see if the 19 backplates fit the FP's ! ( Theyd be to short though :( )
What engine is it for ?
A OS 35 . :) LL~ or maybe Enya ! . The K&B 40 or 35 one would likely ' go in ' .
The 75/35 is 1/2 in - 12.7 mm Vs the OS at 12 mm . so only need a large hammer to fit it .
;)
Lengths look vaugely right , and would ' stroke ' it a tad . If theres a Left & Right PAIR , it might make more sense for me to do a pair .
Enya 5224 & 35 C as back up . Need a left hand 35 ish . :( :P Thanks .
