KB, MERCO or STALKER on ARF Strega?? Any experience??
« on: June 25, 2007, 10:34:34 AM »
Hi all!!
I´ve bought an ARF Strega, and thinking about the power plant between my options, there are Merco 61 (Dixon tuned) Stalker 61 RE 424 and the KB 61 (bad stock ring but new one from Bowman on the way, sure will make a very good engine.
Will these give enough power??, it seems almost everybody is going to 76 on the Strega........
Please, give me your opinions between them to help the decision.

Kind regards from Spain
Manuel.

I know the PA 65 side exhaust on a muffler will haul around a 900 sq inch Sweeper and do a kick ass pattern.  I seen it!!! n~

So, I suppose that will be enough engine.

I suggest you call Randy Smith and get a PA 65.  For the Strega I would recommend a side exhaust and a Aero muffler. D>K

Thanks a lot Bradley, at this moment I have the three 61´s (Merco, Stalker and KB) and before buying another engine, I´d like to use some of them (I´m becoming a sort of collecting man  ~^), allways some person has some positive experience on them..... of course.
Kind regards.
Manuel.

Ah, I misunderstood.

The Merco would be my choice.  Not a powerhouse, but a sweet run.

If you use the aluminum pads to mount the engine, you could try all three.

Hi again.
Very interesting the posibility of making an interchangeable engine mounting (like Arf Cardinal) and try some of them)....
Thanks again.
Manuel.

Hi Manuel,

The original Strega that Windy built used a "Big Jim" ST-60.  The three engines you have "should" all pull it quite well.  My first choice would be the Stalker.  I have seen several of those run extrememly well.

Brad's suggestion for interchangable mounts is great.

Have no experience with the Stalker or K & B, but did run a Dixon-tuned Merco, outstanding stunt motor!  With a wood 13/6 prop, would pull a fairly heavy ship all day in perfect 4/2/4 traditional style.  My only concern is lack of parts for the Merco; other engines mentioned have good parts availability.
