Title: Question on tuned pipe length

I've seen some pipes that extend relatively little behind the baffle while others extend back quiet a bit. Does the space behind the baffle affect engine performance or is it just a matter of style? Qurious minds would like to know. I do too... n~

That is the muffler portion of the pipe.

In other words the first baffle is the bounce point for the reflective wave, everything after that is meant make the pipe more quiet.
