Does the 40VF share the head with any other OS engine? I find I need a new head for a 40VF and was wonder is other OS engine head fit the thing. Trying to find a 40VF is, I suspect, not going to be easy.

Randy,
I was afraid you were going to say that. Figures. Well, if you see one around, let me know. ;D

Randy P...You might consider making your existing head into a 'button' and make a clamp from scratch, or possibly an FP or FSR head would have the same bolt pattern and you could make that into a clamp. Just some ideas that might help. Let me know if you need some lathe work done cheap! n~ Steve

For what its worth, I think the SF uses the same head. Pretty sure it uses the same crank too. I know the cases are different, of course(SF is one piece, VF is 2). I have both SF and VF engines packed away right now.. I could check if you like.

Hi Richard
The SF takes a differant head and crank than the VF.
Randy I would take Steve up on his offer ;D That would solve your problem. I have still tons of OS parts here, and many for VFs but no 40 VF head

oops! I guess I was mis-informed by Tower. When I bought this CL crank for the SF, the spec said for SF or VF...It is no longer available either.Sorry bout that.
BTW.. Does anyone have a OS thrust washer puller for an SF that I can borrow/rent/buy?

The head just got scuffed up and broke a couple of fins. I had been afraid that it did further damage, but I ran the engine on the bench to test it and it seems to run fine. No excess vibration or weirdness. If I find one, I find one, If not, I may just clean this one up and use it.
