Fox 35 ABC Information
« on: May 15, 2010, 06:47:37 AM »
Looking for some advise on  the following, I have a Fox 35 that has been built from the following parts, It has a 50th anniversary crankcase, ABC Piston/ Liner from George Aldrich, One of Randy's trick heads and his balanced crankshaft and last but not least the stuffer blackplate. This engine has never been run. What should be the break in procedure. What fuel and oil % should be used for break-in? Once broke in what fuel should be used. (I live in Florida ) Prop recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom. My suggestions are to break in as you would any other brand of ACC.  One run pretty rich to flush out any unwanted manufacturing particles, then go to a rich two cycle run for two or therr 3 oz tanks and then mount the engine and do the rest flying the break in in.  As for fuel, you still should run a goodly portion of castor  due to the fact that castor carries out a lot of heat, and the old fox ain't got an abundance of cooling fins,  I recommend 7.5% nitro, 20 4% castor  and 5% Klotz or other good synthetic.  As for the prop,  For break-in, I use a 10 X 6 Master Air screw cut down to 8.5 inch Diameter and rebalanced.  For flying I really like the 10 X 5 APC.  I would use 5 % nitro fuel for break in,  but  it won't hurt to go with what I gave for flight.
My set up is the same as yours except for the ABC set-up I run a stock shaft and the Fox brand Hemi head.  Either Hemi head will perform about the same.  That sounds like a good unit you got there.--- are you going to have it as Brodaks?
