Props for Super Tigre 46 G21
« on: September 03, 2008, 10:24:29 PM »
I have a Super Tigre 46 that I ran for the first time last weekend.

I used an 11x5 prop on it because I had one and that is what I have used on an LA 46.  I have no experience with Super Tigres and nobody around here runs them.  What props do people usually use on these engines?  Also what is a typical launch rpm?

Thanks for your help.

Neil

Hi all.

I´ve used on mines 11x5, 11x6, 12x5 and a tips reworked 12x6, the Tigre has much more grunt than the LA 46, and can swing bigger props.

Mines sing best when tach on the ground between 8.500 and 8.800 rpm.

There much fun working with compression ratio and venturi size to match the engine to any particular model.

Hope it helps

Kind regards from Spain.

Hi, Neil, just tried the new RSM 11/6 props on a ST 46...very impressive!  Once upon a time, when they were available, the old Rev-Up 11.5/6 was THE ST 46 prop!

When still readily available, Taipan 11-5 props worked very, very nicely on engines able to run similarly to the G21-40/46, with the proviso that they really needed trimming close to the hub to clear a typical nose ring.  I used them on OS Max-H 40s, K&B 40s (although not all such handled them well), and the Tigre G21 cousins.  There are still some available, but you have to shop around, and the black or charcoal gray ones seemed a lot better than the orange ones -- which either have/had less glass filler included, or perhaps none.

There's a guy, Mike Conwqy, who sells on EBAY as "conrat". He frequently offers bags (10) of Rev-Up 12-5 props which are unbranded, originally made for the Air Force as Drone propellers. They usually sell for around $25 - $30 a bag + shipping. While these props can be used as-is for a G21/.46, with a little experimentation and judicious trimming (and balancing), you can end up with truly good props!

I have probably bought 5 bags. I trim some down to 10", and thin the blades somewhat. This results in an "almost" Rev-Up 10-5EW, just about perfect for a good OS Max S.35

Actually, "Conrat" is Mike Conner (no S, no Y or W). Mike and I have judged together quite a few times. He's also a Free Flighter, and flies a pretty mean OTS pattern with his elderly Reinhardt "Internats Stunt Winner", with its incredibly feeble sandcast Fox .35.  He has more fun than the law should allow, and almost always has a "chicken kit" (a bucket from KFC or local supermarket) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ewww! Popeye's Cajun is best!

One of the European stunt fliers recommended the 3 blade Graupner 10-6 for the ST .46.  Hobby Lobby has 'em. H^^ Steve
