What is a good starting point for the Super Tigre G.21/46?

 I have one with a Big Art tube muffler that Im thinking of sticking on a Forerunner if the .46LA isnt enough for it (forerunner is a little porky in weight).

 11x4 on up?

I don't think you'll have much luck with an 11x4 prop on a G21/46.
Depending on the type of ride you want, you may need something from 11x6 to about 12x5.5-6.
This obviously depends on the quantity of nitro, venturi diameter, head thickness, etc.etc.
I believe that by using the search engine here on SH and on SSW you can find a lot of valuable information about it.

   No way on the 11-4. Like most things you can do with/to an ST46, I tried it on several occasions. It will spin fast enough to make llevel flight speed but will be deader than dead in the maneuvers.Not enough pitch.

    I would suggest starting with an 11-6, 11.5-6 and if everything is working, then try a 12-6.

I run my 46LA on a rather large profile.  I have setted in on the MA 11-6.  I have tried 11-4, 11-5, 11-5.5, 12-5, 12-6 and a three blade 10-6.  It is happiest with the 11-6.  I did have decent results with a wood 12-6 cut down to 11.  Can't remember the brand.  An 11-5 works if you run on the lean side.  I don't.

Yea I normally run TT 11x4.5 on my .46LA's.even 11.5x4 was great on the Cardinal i had.

 Never ran a ST.46 and figured since it was a .46 the props would be close to the same. But it is a totally different animal of a motor compared to the LA afterall.

Hehe thats what I hear. I need to find a Big Art Tongue Muffler for it. I have that tube muffler but for weight sakes. I would assume the tongue muffler would be lighter.

    Any muffler that fits a ST.51 and ST.60 will fit the .46 also. That will let you use a Scott Dinger or Randy Smith unit also. Both nice and light.  As for props, look for some of the classic wide props from Rev-Up. I haven't run a ST.46 in a long time, but I recall that it was suggested that the best prop was a 12-6 Rev-Up cut down to 11 1/2" or 11 3/4". I have liked the Xoar props on my ST.60, so if you can get some of their 11-6, 12-5 and 12-6 props, they may do the job for you. Nice props and not too expensive. And don't underestimate the Master Airscrew prop in the same dimensions. They have improved their product quite a bit and the ones I have been testing on Fox .35s and such have worked well for such a cheap prop. I have several good ST.46s and hope to build something nostalgic for one, just for the sound! With a good muffler and propped correctly, you'll love the sound! I think they are just like the ST.60, in that when you have the right prop, it tells you! Whether they are competitive or not, it's fun to run and fly them for the sound!

In my humble opinion still one of the best engines out there.

Hi all, just for your interest, Merco silencers are a perfect match for ST46, the old three pieces one was hugely used in the ST60 golden era.

Well  ,  some  Merco  muffler  match perfectly, 1.502 inches ,many other are  1.445 inch and  match the  OS  SF  SX  series  plus  the magnum  52   52  ASP  46  52   etc

Far and away the best prop I ever used on my ST .46s was a Rev Up 11 1/2 x6 EW.  Unless you can find a stash of these I’d try a light wood 12x6 and maybe nip off the tips to 11 1/2”.  The Tigre needs to run in a quick four cycle and breaking into a two cycle as the nose gets vertical.  This requires more pitch and lower RPM lest you will burn your rings in a hurry.  Don’t try anything like 4 pitch.  Don’t be afraid to use a little more oil in the fuel.  A lovely engine as long as you can find a supply of rings and bearings.  I’d think an 11x6 APC would be a fair fallback prop if that’s all you can find.  The ST .51 runs well on it but growls back at me with a 12x6.  It seems over propped with that.

I've got to go with Dave on this.  The ST .46 with a Rev Up was  (IMHO) one of the power systems that opened the door from the early 70's and led the way to the modern ships of today. (Les McDonald not withstanding.)  And man, do they sound great. If it had a rear exhaust it would have been just about perfect.
