Post by: Paul Taylor on November 18, 2011, 09:28:47 PM
Any one know if I can find a prop washer at a hardware store?

Steel washer with a 1/4" hole, roughly the diameter of the drive washer, should work. Nice prop washers seem to have a taper thinning as you move from the center to the circumference. Perhaps it distributes forces better.

I have several. They are pretty much standard for all OS's with 1/4-28 shaft. PM me your address and I'll pop one in the mail.

If I'm not installing a spinner, I always replace the OS prop nut with a Gr.8 from the hardware store that has an SAE hex...7/16" wrench...I think. OTOH, if I'm installing a spinner, then often use a Dave Brown (short) extension prop nut/washer combo, or use the stock OS washer with a 1/4-28 coupler nut from the hardware store. I'm not too keen on aluminum prop nuts. If they strip out at the wrong time, it's a problem I don't need.  H^^ Steve
