Prop question
« on: December 21, 2017, 02:21:26 PM »
I am building a stock Sig Twister with a Tower 40 engine on it. A 10.5x4.5 prop was suggested but are not available locally. Is there a more available prop or should I look for this one? Tim

11x4 APC is close and available most places . Check Tower , they have most props in stock. 11.5x4 APC works well also .

I have had great luck with the Xoar wood props. For your tower .40, an 11x4 or 11x5 should work well.
Use the 11x4 if you are running the engine in a rich 2 cycle mode, and use the 11x5 if you are able to get the engine to do the 4-2-4 cycle thing that some people like.

I'm excited for you for the maiden flight!

Chris

https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAPLJ&P=6   xoar 10x5
https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAPLN&P=6  xoar 11x4 on backorder until late Dec (Now?)

The APC props work good, but they are heavier than the wood props by quite a bit.

I love the xoar 10x5 on my Banshee with a FP.40. Flies great.

Central Hobby in Billings, MT and the APC factory are THE places to get ALL of the APC props. It seems nutzo to go to all the trouble to get a prop just to try, but that's the world we CL guys live in. There have been enough reports of good results with the .40FP, that I'd get 3 or 4. But i admit that I may have a propeller fetish...   ;D  Steve

Thanks Ron! I am off until Wednesday but still have to finish the Twister. Real close now with just putting the control horns on and wings, stab and rudder. Gill suggested the 10.5x4.5 but hard to find. I was leanining towards the 10x5 as they are readily available. Is anyone flying this weekend? Tim

Thanks John for the props to try! Ringmaster is ready to go again. Going 10x5 on it instead of the 10x6. I had a great time flying Friday with everyone. Tim

10.5x4.5 apc prop can be ordered from Tower. Easy to get in the past. I've used that prop with Tower 40 engines on all kinds of planes. Busters, Flite Streaks, Magician, Vector 40, Tanager, Galaxy, Oriental, Prowler, RD1. Engines were tuned with Venturi, head gaskets and fuel. Planes weighed mid twenty ounces to high forty ounces. Oh yes. Also powered some Twisters of mine.

The old Tornado / Grish 11 x 4s woerk pretty well on them ( FPs ) if you find any ( at the swap meets etc 0 NOT the floppy polyethalene ones though .

come to think of it , the 10 x 4 3 blade would likely be good , if a bit revy , and a zinger 11 x 4 would have to be ok , and ' tuneable ' whittled .
