Title: prop choice T&L McCoy 40 RH

Kit built Viking with Tom Lay modified MC 40 RH.  Have tried 11x4 Pro Zinger and APC 11x4.  Plane is not overweight and flies very well.  Love this motor and just looking to optimize things.  Thoughts?

Hi Bruce,

Tom told me personally that the Rev Up 10-6EW was a great prop for the Red Head .40s he fixed.  Sounds like you are trying to run a high rpm low pitch style while George Aldrich said the RH .40 had the best 4-2 timing of any stock engine.  Run that McCoy with lots of oil and a 6 pitch prop like it should be used ;D  Rev Up 10-6 EW are all I use on Tom's .40RHs.  Tim Wilk makes nice CF copies of the Rev Up EW, but you might need to repitch them.  Also very affordable!  The McCoy .40RH is definitely a 4-2 engine and might not make it too long running near wide open with a low pitch prop.

I run a 12-6 APC cut down to 11 with the tips left square on my Magician. The ones I have seem to like a load. They fly the whole pattern in a 4 with just a beep of 2 at the top of the circle. Very nice running motors for stunt. Mine are all stock except for aluminum head gaskets. Of course, my Magicians only weigh between 35 and 38 ounces.
