Setting up the length, do you cut the header or the pipe or both ?

I believe it's better to cut the pipe, after removing the metallic liner some have. If you cut the header, the glass pipe gets closer to the extreme heat, and has more of a chance of melting, getting soft, collapsing.  H^^

John's comments reflect Randy Smith's instructions to me; the header should NOT be cut, in order to protect the pipe from excessive heat.

Yep, better to cut the pipe. Keeps the carbon and epoxy further from the heat source.
