Is the PA 40/pipe set up enough engine for the Legacy (Allen B. design)?

Hi Jim, I have a PA40 piped in a Staris 650 sq in wing weights 60 Oz's it flys ok. The Legacy is  a little bigger  with a thicker wing if you keep weight around 60 Oz's should be OK

Well, I'm not Randy, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express once...

Assuming you are talking about the regular 40, not the ultralight which wouldn't balance well in a Legacy, I'd say an emphatic YES.

For laughs I put a PA40 on a header muffler in a borrowed Staris at near 70 ounces... it had more than enough power on a muffler to haul that chunky monkey, so I KNOW it would have plenty of power on a pipe to haul just about any stunt ship I could throw at it.

Oh, did I mention my PA40 was bought used and had a zillion flights on it, with very little compression left? I can't imagine how strong a fresh one would be. These are truly amazing little motors.

(Randy now has this motor in for rebuild finally, I couldn't bring myself to torture the poor thing any longer since I've grown rather fond of it.)

Thanks, it is the regular 40 and I'm lucky enough to have a new in box.

Hi James  as you heard  the PA 40 is a very powerful motor and will pull any 60 sized ship, You would only need look to the many planes using them in the past 15 years. Paul Walker won the Lubbock NATs in July with high heat and altitude with a 60 size ship...IMPACT. I think his was 64 ounces. No Problems

  Plenty, I would think. I never really found a good setup for mine but lacking ponies was certainly never an issue for the Imitation XL or Infinity. We aren't getting any more power from 61s or 75s, just changing the way it runs.

You can if you adjust the venturie and EX outlet size, but...you would be much better off using the right sized pipe

Paul Walker ran his PA40-Impact combo, and had some of the best runs, and flights in good and terrible conditions that you would ever see.
Along with many other from Bill Werwage, Bill Rich, Steve Buso, Randy Smith and many many other, I mention this because many forget a long time back it was the Only PA out there.
If you set it up right it will run like a clock every flight, extremely good 4/2 high RPM run.
