Super Tigre X 45 on a pipe.

Hi all,
          I am just awaiting the delivery of a NIB Super Tigre X 45 (1980's RC ringed piston rear exhaust pattern engine) that I am intending for use in control line stunt and was wondering who has any experience with such an engine. The X 45 is a milder timed, longer stroke, larger capacity, front induction brother to the old fire breathing X 40.

Specifically the use of a full length tuned pipe and I believe that it has 160º exhaust timing. Another avenue to explore is the use of my MVVS 49 mini pipe and extending the header long enough to find the boost limit point of it whilst keeping the rpm down to about 11000.

Now before I rapped over the knuckles with comments like "its a waste of time," "its too heavy," etc -  its not meant to be a world championship contender but just an interesting challenge to set up the best that I can.

Hi Chris

You maybe the first one to use the engine, The engine is high timed, very high timed for stunt, and will use a lone pipe, the tuning maybe around 20 to 22 inches. You will most likely need to keep the RPM range up over 11,000. Maybe 11,500 to 13,500 RPMs

Used one of those in R/C on a delta. set up with pipe,APC 8/9 and appropriate fuel we consistantly got 175 out of it.

Wish you had mentioned this earlier.  n~

I have the perfect pipe for that engine, thin and sleek.
 
It's designed a bit differently.

This one is 20.5" long and .75" in diameter. The diameter is consistant with the length in that it doesn't expand in size like most pipes.

This one has a movable diaphragm attached to a length of wire that sticks out the end of the pipe for a good length.

You attach the pipe and that's done. Fire up the engine and use the wire, slide in slide out, to adjust the RPM. When you have it where you want it, there's a lock bolt you tighten to hold the wire permanently. Done!

They work like a charm, I had a couple over the years on 45's to 60's. I have only two NIB ones left.

Not inexpensive but really nice.

                    that pipe does look interesting I must admit, and I was relying on my MVVS 49 mini pipe to be sufficient here.

But all of this has led to some investigation that I wouldn't have otherwise looked into - and if it fails for CL use then I always have a nice RC engine to use!

That engine is used for pattern. I know someone that used one quit nicely. He fluw Master Pattern and his son flew Advanced, with that same make engine with a Mac pipe.

You can tame it! This pipe could help. I wouldn't offer it to anyone else, I should keep it.
