Title: OS 46 LA limits
Post by: Casey on November 13, 2014, 10:37:55 AM
Is a full fuselage 60 inch wing span 705 square inch 56 oz plane too much for an OS 46 LA to haul around for a full schedule? If it not, what should be the maximum line length?

More to it than area and weight...airfoil thickness and drag in general. Do you want to use CF props and run 20% nitro? Etc.  D>K Steve

What does airfoil thickness do?  Show us some data.

About two years ago I asked "what's the best plane size for an LA 46".  The consensus seemed to top out at around 630 to 650 squares.

If you built really light, you may be able to struggle through the pattern in light winds with a bigger plane -- but why?

About  airfoil thickness,  never had much luck doing eights with a rat racer.  I'd think your .46 would be hard pressed to pull that much airplane effectively.  That motor is nice but more like a .40 in power output.

That was my Humongous except 52 oz.  K&B 4011 flew it just fine.  I suspect a K&B 4011 is a more gonzo engine than a LA 46, but have no comparative data.
