OS .30S vs. OS .35S (Randy?)
« on: January 05, 2011, 07:26:43 PM »
To any and all,

I read a post here sometime ago where Randy said he used both in the past, hence his name in the title.

My question, since I just mounted an OS .30S on a CG Buster, and it will be the first time I have ever used one.  Does the .30S "4-2" like a .35S, all things equal?

Suggestions on props to start with?

Thanks!
Bill

The 30S runs just like the 35S, I had several of them in profiles, Ronnie Farmer had one in his Stiletto.
It ran just like the 35. I still have some new ones and parts, I may put one in a Built Up Ring Master  or a P-40

Any prop suggestions? (just one to throw on to start with)

Thanks!

Hi all.
My experience agrees totally with Randy words.
I suggest to begin with a 10x5, in my units four stroking at about 8500 rpm on the ground. Your Buster will be happy.
Kind regards from Spain.

First off how is the wife?  Better I hope, now for the "toy airplane" question, might try a 10x5, if too much cut to 9 3/4x5, and go from there.
Also suggest using 23-25 % castor fuel the balance 3 or so synthetic, of course Randy and other engine fellow's might suggest a better formuls on the oil.
  Keep us posted..           #^

Yep a 95% version, looked just like full size, unless you put a ruler on it no one knew
The 10 x 5 is a good place to start, I always ran 25% oil 1/2 castor in mine, 10% nitro was common
For a Buster 5% should be fine, although the Shoestring was a much better flyer

Thanks, Randy.  I , too have always thought the Shoestring was better in the air.  Personally liked the Cosmic Wind the best, but not because it flew better.  Never had a Buster until now, and it finishes the "trilogy" of Goldberg kits for me.  This Buster is fairly light for a 40 plus year old kit. ;D

My flying buddy back in 1964 had a "clipped wing" Shoestring done to the mods called out on the plans, with an OS MAX III .35, removed the venturi restrictor, 9X8 Power Prop and Missle Mist.  He liked to fly really fast...... ;D

The coolest thing about the 30 is that it is OSA the 35. The parts are completely interchangeable. The only difference is the bore. The 30 p/c will drop right in a 35.

Another cool thing about the 30S is the piston and sleeve fits on all the ones I have seen are tighter. Don't know why, but I have seen many hundreds of these motors and still have many new ones, The 30S always had better P/S fits.
and all you need to convert one either way, other than the P/S as Dave stated, is the head
